The Zonta Club of Houston (ZCH) is an organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through education, service, advocacy and fundraising on the local and international level.
Our members are among Zonta International's 31,000 members in over 1200 clubs worldwide located in 66 countries. ZI was founded in Buffalo, New York, USA, in 1919, by a woman entrepreneur who wanted to become a Rotarian in order to perform service work at a time when Rotary did not allow women members ... and Zonta is proud to have had Amelia Earhart as a member.
Zonta International has Consultative Status with several United Nations Organizations including UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund), UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women) and ILO (the International Labor Organization).
ZCH also has a 501c3 organization: the ZCHECF. The fund's primary purpose is to provide scholarships and fund service projects that advance the status of women in the greater Houston area as well as globally through contributions to the Zonta International Foundation.
The Zonta Club of Houston, working through the ZCHECF, supports Zonta International's service and scholarship programs as well as sponsoring its own programs locally. ZCHECF awards a scholarship annually for an outstanding local young woman involved in public affairs and attending secondary school (Young Woman in Public Affairs). We also award a scholarship to an outstanding young woman in business school at the university level (Jane M. Klausman Women in Business).
The women of the ZCH perform hands-on service at several local agencies supporting women.
The ZCHECF hosts an annual fun fundraiser: the Zonta Zelebration.
